The Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES SkillsUSA Chapter participated in the New York State SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Conference Nov. 5-7 in Albany where awareness and more than $1,000 was raised for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Herkimer BOCES SkillsUSA student members Zoey Caldwell, Brianna Williams, Samantha Williams and Izabelle Lyon also participated in three days of leadership training focused on the SkillsUSA Framework. The SkillsUSA Framework consists of workplace skills, personal skills and technical skills grounded in academics. The training provided will be implemented with all student members at Herkimer BOCES.
Herkimer BOCES students were some of the 450 participants from 62 schools across New York state to receive training at this year’s conference.
The students also took part in a guided tour of the New York State Capitol building.
Zoey Caldwell is a senior in the Herkimer BOCES Health Science Careers program from Herkimer Central School District, Brianna Williams is a senior in the Herkimer BOCES Health Science Careers program from Central Valley Central School District, Samantha Williams is a junior in the Herkimer BOCES Cosmetology program from Herkimer Central School District and Izabelle Lyon is a junior in the Herkimer BOCES Cosmetology program from Dolgeville Central School District.
The students were accompanied by SkillsUSA advisors Holly Fischer and Sarah Jacquays-Alberts and SkillsUSA Area 2 Administrative Trustee Zane Mahar. They participated in training for advisors and preparation for upcoming competitions.
All of the Herkimer BOCES participants earned their Statesman Awards.
