Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Career and Technical Education students captured one first place, two second places and one third place during the SkillsUSA state conference, and the first-place finisher will be advancing to the national conference.
“Our students have worked so hard to prepare for this conference,” Herkimer BOCES SkillsUSA co-advisor Holly Rotundo Fischer said. “They stepped outside of their comfort zone and had an experience that they will be able to learn and grow from.”
Herkimer BOCES registered 32 students in 24 contests at the SkillsUSA New York State Leadership and Skills Conference from April 24-26 at the Syracuse Fairgrounds. Herkimer BOCES also had three contest helpers and three delegates at the event. This year’s theme was “SkillsUSA No Limits.” Rotundo Fischer, the Herkimer BOCES Cosmetology program instructor, is the Herkimer BOCES SkillsUSA co-advisor with Cosmetology teaching assistant Sarah Jacquays-Alberts.

Second Place in Cosmetology Senior: Herkimer BOCES Cosmetology senior Kaylee Lynch, from Dolgeville Central School District.
Second Place in Motorcycle Technology Service: Herkimer BOCES Power Sports & Agricultural Mechanics senior Elijah Assisi, from Mount Markham Central School District.
Third Place in T-Shirt Design: Herkimer BOCES Visual Communications and Media Arts senior Megan March, from Poland Central School District.
Caldwell qualified to advance to the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, which takes place from June 24-28 in Atlanta.
