Students in the Building Construction program at the Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Career and Technical Education Center volunteered to help replace a roof on the Frankfort Hill Historical Society's District No. 10 Schoolhouse this week.
The schoolhouse, which is located near the intersection of Higby and Albany roads, was the school that children in the Frankfort Hill area attended from the time it was built in 1841 until it closed in 1955. The roof was in need of replacing, and Herkimer BOCES Building Construction students have been doing the work this week.
Building Construction is a two-year Career and Technical Education program designed to prepare students with training in the construction trades through the design and construction of a modular home built on site. Students develop basic skills in rough framing, finish carpentry, windows, doors, roofing, mortars, block and brick work, tiling, basic wiring and plumbing.
