Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES was notified in the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 19, of two staff members at the William E. Busacker Complex on Gros Boulevard in Herkimer receiving confirmed positive tests for COVID-19.
Because of the confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, all Herkimer BOCES Special Programs classes at the WEB Complex will be moving to virtual instruction starting Friday, Nov. 20. Herkimer BOCES learned of the positive test results after a half-day dismissal on Thursday, Nov. 19, so students had already been sent home for the day.
The staff members were last at work on Friday, Nov. 13, so the 14-day quarantine period is anticipated to end on Friday, Nov. 27, during Thanksgiving recess. The anticipated return to in-person instruction for the Special Programs classes at the WEB Complex is Monday, Nov. 30.
All other Herkimer BOCES programs and classrooms – other than those impacted by this or a previous case of COVID-19 – will continue with their regular schedules.
Herkimer BOCES has been working closely with the Herkimer County Public Health Department on the contact-tracing and decision-making process. Health officials will determine who among staff and students needs to be quarantined or take any follow up steps and will directly contact them.
Extra cleaning and sanitizing will be conducted in the Special Programs classrooms. Further information and announcements will be provided as updates are available. If you have further questions/concerns, do not hesitate to contact the BOCES district office at 315-867-2023.
