Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Board of Education members voted unanimously on Thursday, Feb. 9, to appoint Kathy Sarafin to the board.
Sarafin was recommended for the seat by the Frankfort-Schuyler Board of Education and appointed by the BOCES board. She will represent Frankfort-Schuyler Central School District on the BOCES board.
Her appointment lasts from Feb. 9 through April 19, and she will be eligible to run for re-election. If she wins re-election, she will serve out the remainder of the term for the seat she is filling – from April 20, 2023, through June 30, 2024.
Sarafin has lived and worked in the Frankfort community for 39 years – including 36 years as an English teacher and advisor for multiple extracurricular activities at Frankfort-Schuyler Central School District. She is also a former Frankfort village trustee, Frankfort Power and Light commissioner and Frankfort Schuyler Teachers’ Association president.
Now retired from teaching, Sarafin is a member of the Frankfort Free Library Board of Trustees and is in her sixth year on the Frankfort-Schuyler Board of Education.
Sarafin is filling a seat that was left vacant after then Herkimer BOCES Board of Education President Michael Clements passed away unexpectedly in December.
At the Herkimer BOCES Board of Education’s January 2023 meeting, then Vice President Holly Pullis was elected as the new board president. Board member Ronald Loiacono was then elected as the new vice president.
