More about the Automotive Technology program:
Automotive Technology is a program that focuses on preparing students with the knowledge and employability skills needed for a position in the automotive field or as the foundation for further education in a technology school or college.
Students will learn within a classroom and automotive shop through a hands-on approach, applying shop safety while utilizing up to date equipment and tools.
Students who complete the two-year program will earn a certificate in Auto Technology and have the skills required to become an entry-level technician.
Students who wish to further their education can earn college credit through our many pre-arranged articulation agreements.
Students have the ability to earn up to eight ASE certifications and will complete training in SP2 (Safety & Pollution Prevention).
Automotive Technology 1:
Covers safety through the Safety and Pollution Prevention Curriculum and is continuously reinforced in the classroom and lab area.
A Safety Certificate is issued upon successful completion that covers proper use of tools, brakes, suspension steering, shop equipment and general vehicle maintenance.
Automotive Technology 2:
Continues with shop safety, certificates issued upon successful completion of Safety and Pollution Prevention training in automotive electrical systems, engine performance and preparation for the (ASE) Automotive Service Excellence Exam and training to perform New York state vehicle inspections.
Work-based hours:
This class provides work-based learning, with 100 hours on-site and the opportunity to complete additional hours off-site (if entry-level requirements are met).
